With the forthcoming release of her debut EP,NOIR, inching ever so close, 21-year-old soul artist/singer-songwriter, Olawumi returns to unveil a trippy, new song and visual. Joining once more with Philadelphia producer Cloud Atrium, “5,” a majestic, blend of urban and lunar, is first release off the Nigerian-American artist upcoming NOIR EP. The spacey synths, quick clicks, and shallow bass allow for some genuine and raw feelings to be elicited. If the song’s signature synths and ambient effects weren’t already spellbinding, the visual display will certainly help.
The Afrolombian Films-directed clip features the New Jersey-bred songbird dealing with love, insomnia and separation. The psychedelic drug tripping sounds of Cloud Atrium play its part in adding in the trippy-ness of the visual. Take a look and listen above to “5.” For more of Olawumi, check out her previously released unique blends of Soul and R&B, “Fame,” and “Wrong.” – UT
