Sony Unveils Upgraded Waterproof Tablet, The Xperia Z2

As the world is going mobile, there is much competition between the various “tech conglomerates” if you will. With the influx of handheld tablet computers, each of these said conglomerates are attempting to create the next innovative piece of equipment to sell to the masses. Trying to keep up with the likes of Google and Apple, Sony has released its prized possession, the sleek and skinny Xperia Z2.

What makes this product so innovative? Besides the fact it’s designed at just .25 inches, yes it’s only one quarter of an inch thick, the Xperia Z2 is completely waterproof—up to 5 feet. Have you damaged a tablet by spilling water on it, or leaving it outside when a rain storm comes? If so, you’re going to love this.

Software/Specs

The Xperia Z2 is much like its predecessor, the Xperia Tablet Z, but with different specs, processor, and picture. Upgraded to the Android KitKat 4.4, the 10.1 inch slate features the innovative—there’s that word again—quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor with 3 GB of RAM. The slate comes with a full HD pixel resolution, reaching your eye at 224 pixels per inch. As an Android powered device, users are treated to bright, lag free app usage. Seriously, zero load time when toggling between screens for stutter-free browsing and maximum power. Models come in 16 GB and 32 GB.

The Xperia Z2 has almost an inch of bezels on either side, which takes a little something away from its design, but the razor sharp images tend to block it out. Still, it would be nice to have more screen. That’s comparable to the Google Nexus 7, but again, doesn’t affect overall user experience.

Images are displayed with the new Adreno 330 GPU, a 20 percent boost from the Xperia Z which used Adreno 320. This feature also lets you save the power you consume. Take advantage of the Stamina mode to control your battery life. Stamina mode disables features you don’t need when you’re not actively using the device. Once you resume using it, the apps power up again, giving you longer battery life.

You’re treated to an 8 MP camera with an Exmor RS™ sensor, making it easy to snap pictures with razor sharp quality in any light. Plus, talk to your friends and family with its 2 MP high-definition front facing camera for video calls and conferences. When snapping pictures, they become auto-contrasted, optimizing the detail and color.

Sound

With audio from Sony, you’re in for a treat. With two S-Force 3D surround speakers, Sony has placed the sound in ideal locations where your hands won’t interfere while holding the device. Plus, there’s noise free sound embedded into the Xperia Z2, and when utilizing the Sony MDR-NC31EM headphones, 98 percent of outside noise will be cancelled out, leaving you to get lost in a sea of clear audio output.
